Everyone involved within the Independence Heights Redevelopment Council plays an integral role in the success of our organization. However, the following members of our council have been shining leaders within the community and have proven their passion to our cause.
Tanya Debose
Tanya Debose is the Disaster Relief Coordinator for Independent Heights Assistance Ministries and a native of Texas. She attended high school in Houston at M. B. High School. She graduated from Lamar University in Beaumont Texas with a Bachelors Degree in Criminal Justice.
Tanya has over 18 years experience in the social service field. Her professional experience includes working 8 years as a Parole Officer for the Texas Department of Criminal Justice. With over 10 years experience in the nonprofit field, Tanya has worked for various agencies providing services to individuals and families in transition. In 1999, she worked as a legal advocate at Northwest Assistance Ministries where she was responsible for the development of legal services for domestic violence victims.
Angela Meshack, DrPH
Angela Meshack, DrPH, grew up in Independence Heights and is now using her skills gained during advance studies at The University of Texas Health Science Center at Houston School of Public Health to give back to the community. She is a behavioral scientist at The University of Texas.
Angela is also the executive director of a community-based non-profit organization founded to provide academic enrichment and health empowering information, skills and interventions to people in need.
Natasha Johnson
Natasha Johnson is the President of the Independence Heights Super Neighborhood Council.
The Super Neighborhood Council meets on the first Tuesday of each month at the Independence Heights Park and Community Center at 6:30 p.m.
Trevor Piper
Trevor Piper is a community resident and graduate of Booker T. Washington High School.
Trevor earned a degree in community development from Prairie View A&M University and is currently working in Independence Heights as a community developer.
Trevor also owns his own design company named "T Piper Media". The company produces print and media collateral for various companies and organizations in the Greater Houston area.
Kimberly Bowie
Kimberly Bowie is Board Chair for The Lighthouse Village. The Lighthouse Village is a nonprofit organization whose mission is to provide assistance to individuals and families in transition.
Kim is a resident of Independence Heights and a graduate of Booker T. Washington High School. Kimberly graduated from Prairie View A&M University with a degree in Architecture.
Kimberly currently works for CBIC Development and attends True Light Missionary Baptist Church.
